Jerash Governorate and Yarmouk Water Company Discuss Enhancing Water Services and Strengthening Joint Cooperation
Jerash – Jerash Governor Dr. Malek Khrisat, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yarmouk Water Company Dr. Osama Al-Muhaisen, and the Company’s General Manager Ghislain Juvanon discussed ways to enhance water and wastewater services across Jerash Governorate, improve water supply efficiency, and strengthen cooperation and coordination to improve the quality of services provided to citizens. The meeting was attended by Assistant Governor for Development Affairs Saad Al-Abdalat, along with several directors from Yarmouk Water Company.
Dr. Al-Muhaisen affirmed that the Company continues to implement the Royal directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the guidance of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, in line with the Jordanian Government’s vision to strengthen the investment environment and improve the quality of essential services. These efforts support the Economic Modernization Vision and the National Water Strategy through the development of water infrastructure, enhanced operational and management efficiency, and addressing the challenges facing the water sector to ensure sustainable water supply and support development across the northern governorates.
He noted that Jerash is one of Jordan’s key governorates experiencing continuous growth in tourism and development investments, making it essential to further strengthen water and wastewater services to meet future demand. He added that the Company is implementing a comprehensive development programme under its management contract with Veolia, aimed at improving management and operational efficiency, strengthening institutional performance, and applying international best practices in water and wastewater services.
Dr. Al-Muhaisen further emphasized that the Company gives special attention to Jerash Governorate, particularly during the Jerash Festival season, to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of water and wastewater services. He stressed the importance of close cooperation with administrative governors and the relevant authorities in combating illegal attacks on water networks, reducing non-revenue water, and supporting the implementation of strategic water projects across the northern governorates served by Yarmouk Water Company, helping overcome supply challenges and improve services for citizens.
For his part, Governor Dr. Malek Khrisat stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination between Jerash Governorate and Yarmouk Water Company, praising the Company’s efforts to improve water and wastewater services and enhance service quality for citizens. He affirmed that the Governorate will continue providing its full support for the Company’s plans and projects in the public interest.
He added that ensuring water reaches citizens according to the approved distribution schedules remains a top priority, emphasizing that every citizen has the right to receive their allocated share of water. He stressed that the Governorate will deal firmly, and in accordance with the law, with any tampering involving water pipelines, networks, meters, or illegal connections that undermine the fairness of water distribution, affirming that no violations affecting citizens’ rights or hindering efforts to improve water services will be tolerated.
Yarmouk Water Company General Manager Ghislain Juvanon stated that since the beginning of the management contract, the Company has been assessing operational challenges and implementing appropriate solutions. He noted that the reduced water resources available this year have created additional challenges; however, operational measures implemented by the Company’s teams have already contributed to improving performance in several service areas.
He added that the Company continues to implement projects financed by international funding institutions while pursuing a significant transformation in institutional performance through reducing non-revenue water, accelerating infrastructure rehabilitation projects, and strengthening financial sustainability. These efforts are fully aligned with the objectives of the management contract and are intended to improve the quality and efficiency of services provided to customers. He emphasized that the Company’s true measure of success is increasing customer satisfaction while preparing the utility to maximize the benefits of the future National Water Carrier Project.
Meanwhile, Jerash Water Directorate Director Eng. Mohammad Otoum stated that the Directorate continues implementing its operational plans to improve water supply efficiency throughout the governorate by enhancing the readiness of operation and maintenance teams, strengthening field monitoring activities, improving water distribution management according to approved schedules, and implementing network rehabilitation and infrastructure improvement projects. These efforts are being carried out in coordination with Yarmouk Water Company’s General Administration to better respond to citizens’ needs.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the importance of continued coordination and cooperation between Jerash Governorate and Yarmouk Water Company to support the implementation of projects and initiatives aimed at improving water and wastewater services and enhancing the quality of services provided to citizens across the governorate
